Generac 5622 GP Series GP5000 6,250 Watt 389cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Generator (Non-CARB Compliant) Review
The best I can tell Generac = Guardian = Centurion. So this review is actually based on the Centurion equivalent of this generator purchased at Lowes. The Generac unit here appears to be a step nicer than the one for sale at the big box stores.
My limited experience with portable generators is based on this one and a 5000W troy-bilt generator that we owned before it broke. The Troy-Bilt generator siezed after less than 20 hours of operation in near ideal conditions. It was filled with clean oil, operating on a flat surface, around a 1500W load. Failing so early is suggests a manufacturing defect combined with poor luck. Regardless of the failure of the Troy-Bilt, the Centurion/Generac generator is far superior in nearly every manner.
The generator feels about 20 lbs heavier than the Troy-Bilt model.
It runs relatively quietly for the engine size. As expected, the engine starts easily using the pull start.
The oilpan is deeper (and probably larger capacity) than the Troy-Bilt making it less likely to oil-starve the engine if it is not perfectly flat.
The front-leg of the generator is about 2"x8" in size keeping it from vibrating into moist ground.
The locking handles are long enough to make moving it around easy.
The outlets are overload protected on the unit. However there is no electric on/off switch on the unit which I found convenient on the Troy-Bilt.
The fill hole for the metal gas tank is located close to the side so that it fills without a funnel from a standard 5-gallon gas can.
Also from quick research it appears that this unit can readily be converted to run on natural gas/propane.
I've been happy and impressed with it in the short time that I've used it, and as an added bonus it's built almost entirely in the US. It's worth that extra money.

And with its hardened steel-tube cradle, this rugged generator holds up well for frequent travel, allowing you to look forward to years of operation.

Powerful OHV Engine with Secure Shutdown
The Generac 5,000-Watt Generator is equipped with a powerful 389-cc OHV (overhead valve) engine. The engine features a low-oil shutdown system, which prevents engine damage and keeps your generator in good shape for long-term use. It also features splash lubrication and a high-performance alternator, ensuring that operation of your electrical devices is efficient and smooth.
Plus, this generator's sturdy, 6.6-gallon steel tank ensures a full 10 hours of operation at a 50-percent load, letting you relax for hours of use. And with the tank's built-in fuel gauge, you can monitor fuel levels at a glance. Generac even provides you with your first supply of oil.
Plenty of Wattage to Run a Full Range of Appliances
The Generac 5,000-Watt Generator supplies 5,000 output watts and 6,250 maximum watts (for start-up of devices). It has an A/C voltage of 120/240 and a frequency of 60 hertz.
For unexpected blackouts, this is enough wattage to run home appliances such as security systems, computers, and electric range tops. For construction and landscaping applications, it's enough to support devices such as trimmers, belt sanders, and circular saws. And for camping and outdoor events, it can run portable stereos, outdoor lights, and electric grills.
(Note: All appliances should be checked for actual wattage ratings.)
Safe, Quiet Operation with Overload-Protected Outlets
If security and quiet operation are important to you in a generator, then the Generac 5,000-Watt Generator is an ideal choice. Its four 120-volt outlets and single 120/240-volt 30 Amp twist lock outlet are circuit-breaker protected, guarding against power overloads and allowing the generator to smoothly send power to your appliances. And the low-tone muffler means the generator runs at a comfortable noise level that easily blends into the background.
This generator is backed by a two-year limited warranty.
