Build a Wind Generator

Do You Want To Build Your Own Wind Generator?

You'll be very happy to know that you can do just that. You just need the right DIY plans to do it. You can save thousands of dollars from what you would pay if you bought a wind generator. Did you know that a purchased wind generator can cost as much as $2500? You can actually build your own for under $100.

What Should You Be Looking For In DIY Windmill Generator Plans?

Easy to ready & easy to follow plans.
The plans must create a generator that can produce over 1000 watts of power.
The supplies needed should cost less than $100.
The supplies should all be material that is readily available.
Must be easy to build.
The generator built should be tough so it can endure the Winter months.

FAQ About Wind Generators
1. How will I know how much power production I need?

You should be aim for about 10 kilowatt hours per day but you can probably get by with much less than that. Some conservative people run their home on only 3 kilowatt hours per day.

2. How do I calculate how much power I'll be producing with my generator?

(Wind Speed ^3) (Blade Diameter ^2) x .00478

Wind Speed as measured in miles per hour & Blade Diameter as measured in feet.

For example if your wind power is 10 mph on average and your blade is 8 feet in diameter then you would calculate your system's power like this:

(10 X 10 X 10) (8 X 8) X .00478. That works out to 1000 X 64 X .00478 which works out to 305 watts. Multiply that by 24 hours to get your kilowatt hours per day. Such as 305 X 24 = 7320 which is 7.3 kilowatt hours per day.

As you can see from this equation as wind power is cubed it is the most important variable in how much power you create with your windmill.

3. Should I build one large wind generator or many small ones?

Usually it's much easier to build smaller wind generators. It will probably be much easier for you to build 3 small wind generators than one huge one.
